Weekend (Events)
Events (07/08/04)
- Friday night:
Loneliness has this mysterious force tt is able to flood me with random thoughts, akin to free radical particles penetrating my brain cell membrane. and i somehow cannot rise above those unfounded thoughts which can drown me with unhappiness.
" What was i thinking about?"
"It wasn't about anything, or due to anyone or anything. they are thoughts percipitated from observation and deeper thinkings, revolving around people. yes, people. Homo Sapiens are so far the most complex and complicated creatures running around on the surface of this Earth.
And what are their favourite activities? Destructing other Homo Sapiens lives! by how?
(a) Betrayals, of kinship, friendship, relationships. succumbing to the temptations of physical pleasures and material luxuries. self-interest that is. money, fame, and ego drives people to betray their dignity and moral values.
(b) When they are confused souls.
They do not know what they seek in life, what are their goals. they get involved in a relationship, accepting the partner not out of love, but because that person loves him/her more, and is caring towards them! (How lame can human get?)
They do not build a sustainable rewarding relationship because they want to be with that someone special and tide through the good/bad times together and love that someone for the next 50years! i can never understand such warped thinking. thus what happens? they get involved, give false hopes, put on an act, pretend to love. when their self-confusion gets too confusing for themselves, they start to create break-ups over illogical excuses! sometimes, the aftermath gets too far too painful. simply because of their own confusion and indecisivesness. and wrecks someone else's life in the process."
Can't they keep things simple?
- Saturday:
Went to the wet market in the morning to prepare the food for Sunday evening's BBQ. spent my afternoon marinading the seafood. luckily i had Grandma around to help out and teach me how to season the seafood with spices.
Went to Chinatown at 5pm to help Daddy buy milk pitchers. walking alone down the Chinatown lanes was very enjoyable. admire the old Peranakan architecture, amazed by how this area has developed from a crampy Chinese migrant living quarters to a commercial tourists spot. moreover, Chinatown is a National Heritage Site. protected against the wild-fire speed of rapid urbanization; a salvaged site amidst a modern concrete jungle of office buildings. nostalgia fills the air. but as much as i am against it, Chinatown is now plastic-fantastic. everything is so artificially constructed, catered to the tourists crowd.
Which part of Chinatown remind you of the good old yester-years and the hard slog that the Chinese immigrant populations endured before Singapore's independence?
Gone are the road side stalls and street foods. Gone are the bullock-carts. Gone are the old dusty medical halls and rice shops. what stands in place today are new clean coffee shops, tourists shops seeling knick-knacks, aroma-therapy spas, tailor shops...
It's quite sad. look at what the authorities are doing, renovating the heritage sites, converting them into tourists districts, about that plastic image they are trying to create. the talk about migrant society. talk about protecting and understanding our roots, protect heritage and preserving our culture. talk about re-living memories. talk about the acknowledging our identity. Talk is Cheap. Indeed.
- Bar Stop
Met Benny, Michele and Alan for pre-dinner drinking session at Bar-Stop Devonshire Rd. one-for-one drinks going on. quite a good deal. applies for wine, beer and spirits only. so we each had ice-cold white wine and Benny had beer. cigarettes lit up like fireworks. talked about Identity, Memories and History. (sounds like Dr Peleggi's Level 3000 module title.) but it was quite relaxing and fun. really enjoyed myself. it's been a long time since i chilled out with a few close friends and sparred intellectually. it's been very long since i have last been alone too.
it was very good to see Alan and Benny. i am really glad to see that they are all doing well at work. Account Executive and Product Communicator respectively. for some divine reasons, Alan is 30 and he looks younger by the day, he doesn't look a day past 25! what facial products that Alan uses??? Benny looks much better now too.
Men are like red wine, the older they age in their oak casks, the higher their market value, the more attractive they get, the smoother and richer they will taste.
ended our night by having dinner at Baker's Inn, Plaza Sing. roast beef sandwich, spaghetti bolognese, tiramisu, mocha caffee. it was good. surprised to see Alan order Lavender tea. but i think he had too much to drink before dinner, and he said "i want a jug of tea". JUG of tea... hmmm... Long Island Tea, he meant?
Good companions make a boring night interesting.
Lousy companions make a interesting night boring.
- Sunday (super summarized version. will edit when mind is clearer)
Another fun-filled Bintan-gang gathering. was supposedly a BBQ at Joshua's void deck at Bedok North 73. unfortunately (or should i say fortunately? depends how you look at it, taking into account the fact that i was the one who prepared the food hence the gist of the matter lies in whether you trust my marinading skills and hygiene standards or not), the evening ended up more so a boozing session. (what's new may i ask?)
well, the fire didn't get going so we couldn't cook. simple as that, despite receiving divine help on fire-starting from an Indian deity.
what to do next?
BOOZE! mango juice, orange juice and Coke as mixers, shots of Vodka and Chivas. "let's go baby, let's go baby c'mon!" duh.... the seafood seriously took ages to "smoke". (thank God we didn't return to hug toilet bowl and diarrhea after eating uncooked food.) then spent the nite talking about sex, fuck-buddies, threesomes(either 1 girl 2 guys, 2 girls 1 guy or 1 girl 2 gays or 1 guy 2 lesbians), foursomes, gay-fucking and anal sex, whips and wax candles, 7 of us wondering whether a negro's dick is harder or is Mitch Ong's dick harder.
hmmm... bitched about a classmate too. (let's see how many people in NUS FASS can't stand him! his Friendster should change to Friend-less which would apparently be more suitable).
as the nite darkened... we decided to leave Bedok and head to TM for a movie. along the way, Elgin changed his mind and all of us drove down to ECP instead. took a walk around, saw people camping there, with huge tents and pots/pans/stoves/mini power generator, then hang out at Mac and chill out. that freaking place was damn packed at 2am! Ham-King still suggested that we go buy one more bottle of red wine and booze but we didn't have a cork-screw driver! so sad! and i didn't know that Kaven was such an interesting guy! quite fun to hang out with too! and good looking! *girls, grab him but be forwarned that he is a habitual swinging bachelor*
